Ready to Focus. Now Where Do I Start?

Its the beginning of 2021 and I FINALLY decided to sit down and figure this whole website thing out. My charge card has been automatically paying for this domain name and web hosting for over 3 years and I pretty much did nothing with it. It has been in “Maintenance Mode” forever. I looked at my WordPress dashboard and realized that everything was red. What did that mean? I had no idea. Time to figure it out.

Alright, I’m back. I’m ready to focus. Now what…?

Start from Scratch

If you’re like me and have left a website sitting there for quite some time, the best thing to do is probably start from scratch. Reintroduce yourself to your hosting dashboard. Check your WordPress installation, check your plugins. Pretty sure these will all need to be updated. When I looked at the dashboard on my website, it was crazy. There were little red bubbles with numbers in them – everywhere. There were a bunch of plugins I had installed that I didn’t even know what they were for. Apparently, I was into full plugin download mode when I first setup my website.

So, I took the time to update my installation, delete plugins that I didn’t think I needed and updated those that I thought were important. My site was up to date. I’m ready. Now what…?

Time to Focus

La la la la….make clicking sounds with my tongue. I have a great idea.

Get a coffee.

Stare at my screen some more. Oh! My coffee cup is empty! Need another coffee.

Wow – check out that shot that Dude Perfect guy made. That was pretty cool. I wonder how long it takes for these guys to make that one shot?

What ever you do. Don’t turn on Disney+. Everything on there is a focus killer. Even catching a glimpse of a show will ruin your entire afternoon or in my case – an entire weekend. My daughter was watching “High School Musical – The Musical, the Series”. I was like – wait, I know there was High School Musical 1, 2 & 3 but now there is a High School Musical – the Musical? Are you serious? Isn’t that a run-on or something? Good grief.

10 Episodes later, I was completely sucked in – hoping for another season. Total time suckage! Alright, I admit it – I enjoyed it. Its a pretty cute show – you should check it out, if you haven’t already!

Wait – No! Don’t do it – especially if you’re trying to focus!

Okay, I was finally ready. I decided to try to build the website. It was a bit more confusing than I thought it would be. But here I am trying to get in at least ONE post. (Sorry – this would be my second. I left the first one I had done all those years ago so I could remind myself how long this process has taken me to get started.)

Keep Posting

From here on out, I am going to try my best to keep on top of this and post some of my thoughts. I’m hoping that my posts will get better and better as time goes by. This is a learning experience and I’m hoping to find some readers out there who are just starting out so we can share our accomplishments and hopefully avoid some pitfalls.

I can see hope on the horizon for 2021!
