Keep your shipping costs down while still maintaining a personal touch
If you ship your own crafts, you know that shipping is a very important part of the process. Packing your products in a professional but personal way can help make a positive impression on your customers. Of course the first objective is to keep your products safe during shipping. Next is to keep it professional and classy, but you don’t want to lose that personal touch. Customers love to be able to see a little bit of you in the packaging.
Unfortunately, fancy labels and specialty boxes can come with a hefty price tag. In order to keep your shipping costs down, find creative ways to package your items that will still show a personal touch but with a smaller price tag. Use craft items that you have in stock or buy a few supplies that can help offer some useful options.
I have included some items that you can order from Amazon that are not only cost effective, but will help you grow your wrapping supplies at a reasonable price.

Keep your products safe
Most important thing to do is to keep your product safe. If you are shipping a large, heavy or fragile item, having the item damaged enroute to the customer is a seller’s worst nightmare. Be sure that you use a proper sized box. Using a box that is too big will cause your item to rattle around and possibly break. Use materials to make sure that your item is firmly tucked into the box. Unfortunately, commonly used shipping materials like packing paper can really add on weight when it comes to postage. This could push your shipping costs higher causing a loss in profits for you. Use items that are lightweight that can get the job done. I personally love these air pillows. I use them often and have not have anything break since I’ve discovered them!
*Although it might be a good idea to purchase your boxes online, look for local distributors which could probably save you money on shipping costs.
Wrap in paper bags and use silicone stamps to add designs
If you need to wrap your products in bags or boxes before shipping, this sweet and simple option is very cost effective. Use simple brown paper bags and stamp with silicone stickers. These plastic sheets of raised silicone stickers allow the user to make their own rubber stamp. This allows you to make your own “scene” using various stickers. This option allows me to add cute characters or stylized words various objects on bags. Adorable!
*Note – check the type of ink pad you choose to use. Some inks need heat or may take a long time to dry.
Use ribbons or twine to decorate
I love using ribbons or twine to spruce up any wrapping. I normally use a simple self-sealing clear plastic bag to protect my products. Using ribbon to decorate the bag keeps the wrapping simple, keeps the product classy as well as keeps costs low. Once you have some supplies in hand, the options are endless. You can have many different looks at a fraction of the cost, since many of these supplies will last for quite some time.
Handwritten ‘Thank You’ messages
As a small business owner, I am so appreciative when people stop by and purchase from our store. I always make it a point to write a handwritten thank you to each and every customer. It’s a nice and easy way to let your customers know that you really appreciate them. If you want to put your thank you note on a sweet card that you can attach to your wrapped product, there are some really awesome options.
I hope some of these will help you create new wrapping ideas as well as keep your products safe while on their way to their new homes. Happy wrapping!
